How to escape the rat race?

Hi all, I live a demanding life where I work away for 6 months of the year but I'm really getting sick of the grind and want to explore different lifestyles.... I love nature and photography and would love to live in the woods..., but not really practical with 3 kids and a wife!!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..
